About Us
Outdoor School For Homeschool Students Ages 6-13
Our Mission:
Nurtured by Nature’s mission is to foster a deep connection to nature in young children by providing rich experiences and unstructured time in nature. Our teachers support children’s learning in nature by facilitating child-led curriculum. We are committed to creating an environment that fosters a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity and a sense of belonging for the families in our community.
While we primarily cater to home school students, we hope to have Saturday spots open specifically to allow for other children in the community to also take part in our outdoor fun.
Our Goal:
Our goal is to create relationships with students that nurture growth both mentally and physically, allowing each student to realize their passion. With our low student to teacher ratio, we are able to focus on the individual student's learning objectives. This encourages a level of engagement in learning seldom seen in the traditional classroom. Additionally, as students are given freedom to explore the natural world on their own, they develop gross motor skills, heighten their senses and develop problem solving skills.
Our Team:
Our team consists of Co-Owners, husband and wife Clint and Vanessa Scriven.
Vanessa is a longtime educator, starting out in the elementary classroom and eventually moving to early childhood education. This latter move gave her the opportunity to work in a school with outdoor education as a key component. As a nature lover, this was a great fit and she's been hooked ever since. Since that time, she has spent many hours gathering information and learning to understand more about the environment and outdoor and forest school education.
Clint is a nature and animal lover and loves to spend time outside with his young nieces watching them explore and encouraging their growth and enthusiasm. He has also spent time as a Direct Support Professional, assessing and meeting the needs of neurodiverse children and adults.
